Heather Busch and Burton Silver are New Zealanders who share a unique vision engendered by the country's remote geographical location and its sensuous landscape. They arrived at their intense interest in Kokigami by very separate paths, one biological and the other spiritual, each representing the twin aspects of their special art.

Heather Busch was drawn to an appreciation of the intimate art of the little paper costume by a more aesthetic route. While she is best known for her paintings of extremely old cats, it was an attempt to find new directions in stained glass sculpture that led to her study of the ancient Oriental art of Kokigami. A long time practitioner of body enhancement techniques, she was quick to realise that glass was an inappropriate medium and soon became expert in the design and decoration of lighter and safer paper sculptures. Her work, always tender and radiant with a definite frontal rigidity, now ranks alongside that of Yukiyujo in Japan and Carotte in France.
